07 Apr Mayor of WF Chris Robbins CBE Passes Away
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart we share with you the news that Mayor of Waltham Forest Chris Robbins CBE passed away on Monday 5th April 2021.
Chris was introduced to our Chairman, Yusuf Hansa shortly after becoming a Councillor in 2002.
Chris became a friend of our Chairman and of Noor Ul Islam. He attended many events over the years at our Mosque, School and other events such as our Interfaith Dinner in November 2019. This happened to be one of our last events in person before Coronovirus started. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87EI6XaRtmY).
Chris was always supportive of Noor Ul Islam’s work in the community, interfaith efforts and humanitarian work overseas. His support and company will be missed by us all.
Our Chairman, Yusuf Hansa was awarded “Freedom of the Borough” on 12th December 2013 in recognition of his services in Waltham Forest. Chris as Leader of WF Council at the time signed the award along with the Chief Executive Martin Esom and the Mayor at the time Late Cllr Nadeem Ali.
Our Chairman recently joined Chris in a WF Faith Communities Forum meeting via Zoom on 10th March 2021 where Chris was elected as the new Chair of the forum and was looking forward to making a difference in the new role.
Chris served the Waltham Forest community since 2002 with dignity, grace, and compassion in his various roles as ward councillor, cabinet member, Leader of the Council 2009 to 2017, and Mayor and was recognised for his service to the community in the Queen’s birthday honours list in 2017 with a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire).
Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
