Let’s learn the 99 names of Allah this Ramadan

Knowing Allah

Allah (SWT) has given Himself Names and attributes so that we can know Him, worship Him and Love Him. What is most amazing and beautiful about Allah’s Names is that through them, we can see how our Creator recognizes the needs of His creation. He is Merciful and we are in need of mercy, He is the Forgiving and we are in need of forgiveness.

To know Allah, we must learn more about His names and attributes. By increasing our knowledge of Allah, we can appreciate His power over all things, and become sincere toward Him.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

Knowledge of the Most Beautiful Names of Allah is the basis of all other kinds of knowledge, for the objects of all these other branches of knowledge were either created or commanded by Him (Bada’i’ al-Fawaa’id by Ibn al-Qayyim, 1/163).

Asma Ul Husna

Learning the names of Allah deepens our connection with Allah. Each attribute of Allah is in fact a guiding principle and teaches us qualities that we can all aspire to.

“Allah has ninety-nine names, i.e. one-hundred minus one, and whoever knows them will go to Paradise.” (Bukhari)

What is it to know the names of Allah? It means to memorise them, understand their meaning, and act in accordance with the meanings.

Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned three levels of enumerating the names of Allah (Badaa’i’ al-Fawaa’id, 1/164):

The first level, to memorize their words and number.

The second level, to understand their meanings and implications.

The third level, to make du’aa (i.e., supplicate) to Allaah with them, this encompasses both supplication of worship and supplication of request.

During this sacred month, why not take the opportunity to amplify your supplication by calling upon the names of Allah. In our daily habits of dhikr, or remembrance of Allah, we can praise and glorify Allah through His Names and Attributes.

Are you up for this beautiful challenge? Are you ready to get to know Allah?

Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Allah says: ‘I am just as My slave thinks I am, (i.e. I am able to do for him what he thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if He remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I too, remember him in Myself; and if he remembers Me in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is better than they; and if he comes one span nearer to Me, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer to Me, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.’ ” Bukhari
Allah is Al-Karim- The Generous. Allah is generous and gives beyond our imagination. He honours the generous and righteous.

Our Ramadan Appeal

Communities working together

When communities come together they can do amazing things, which is why we are giving you the opportunity to come closer to the house of Allah by being a part of it’s establishment. We are close to completing the construction of our new masjid and community centre but we need your help this Ramadan to achieve this.
