The benefits of Surah Ad-Duha

Revelation

Surah Ad-Duha is a surah many of us have memorised and often repeat. But there is significance in the reason for the revelation of the Surah which we may not know.

Surah Ad-Duha was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (saw) at a time when he had not received any revelation for six months.

The Prophet (saw) was disturbed and depressed believing that Allah was displeased with him, had forgotten him.

When the Surah was revealed, Allah gave the Prophet (saw) hope, positivity and the assurance that Allah is with him no matter what.

We are not alone

When we are going through similar feelings of sadness and hopelessness, we too can find peace, hope, and a renewed faith in Allah. Read Surah Ad Duha and ponder over its meanings.

  1. By the morning sunlight,
  2. And [by] the night when it covers with darkness,
  3. Your Lord [O Prophet] has not abandoned you, nor has He become hateful [of you].
  4. And the next life is certainly far better for you than this one.
  5. And your Lord will give you, and you will be satisfied.
  6. Did He not find you as an orphan then sheltered you?
  7. And He found you lost and guided [you],
  8. And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient.
  9. So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him].
  10. And as for the beggar, do not repel [him].
  11. And proclaim the blessings of your Lord.
Your Lord has neither forsaken you nor hated you. (3)

We are not alone, Allah tells us that even when we are in moments of hopelessness and darkness, He is with us.

And the next life is certainly far better for you than this one. (4)

We are comforted in knowing that this life is temporary and that our goal is paradise. The challenges we face in this life are tests from Allah.

And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied. (5)

A verse of hope – the promise of Allah of unimaginable rewards to come.

Did He not find you as an orphan then sheltered you? (6)

We are reminded to be thankful for everything good that has happened in our lives, and to remember how Allah has always provided for us.

And He found you lost and guided [you], And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient.(7-8)

We recall the favours of our Lord. How He provided for us, how our hearts were guided to Him.

So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him]. And as for the beggar, do not repel [him]. (9-10)

We remember those less fortunate than ourselves, we are thankful for what we have. Gratitude can significantly improve our mental health because we express appreciation for what we have.

And proclaim the blessings of your Lord. (11)

Finally, we are reminded about keeping that renewed faith and bond with Allah. We ponder, glorify, worship Allah and find ways to keep Him our hearts!

Surah Duha restores our faith and increase our belief in the greatness and power of Allah. Read it and ponder over its meanings.
